About Shell, Wyoming

It doesn't get any more western than this small town of an estimated 50 population nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Big Horn Mountains. Located in Big Horn County, Shell was named for the abundance of fossil shells located in the area. To the west of town is the Red Gulch Dinosaur Track site, where you
can see fossilized dinosaur tracks.

Red rock formations, sagebrush and green river bottoms dotted with Cottonwoods, you will find a true western experience. The town sits at the
base of the Big Horn Mountains at the mouth of Shell Canyon. You can go for a trail ride up Shell Canyon trail or go fishing in Shell Creek. There's hiking, biking, rock climbing and camping in the nearby Big Horn Mountains.

When you need a bigger town atmosphere, only 70 miles away is Cody, Wyoming where you can enjoy a variety of restaurants, the nightly rodeo in the summer, art galleries, the world famous Buffalo Bill Historical Center, great shopping and more.
